Randy Ingram Trio

12

Randy Ingram (pianist/composer) has been hailed as “gifted” (Jazz Times) and “a formidable composer” (The San Francisco Chronicle). “A young pianist drawn to contemporary harmony and a sleek rhythmic sensibility… Astute, self-possessed” (The New York Times). “He’s got a crystalline sound, rich and wide open, and knows how to state a melody with spacious chords, veering into logical solos that wander into intriguing lands” (Jazz Weekly).

Sky/Lift, the most recent Randy Ingram Quartet record, is available from Sunnyside Records. The album features Matt Clohesy on bass, Mike Moreno on guitar and Jochen Rueckert on drums; together with Ingram, they are four of modern jazz’s finest young musicians. “Ingram and his band consistently get it right,” applauds All About Jazz NY. “[They are an impressive] leader and group that one expects will continue to make great music for years.” Sky/Lift has received tremendous critical acclaim worldwide, propelling Ingram’s quartet to perform at venues such as the Jazz A Domergue Festival in Cannes, France, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. His next recording, an intimate duet with the esteemed bassist Drew Gress, will be released by Sunnyside in early 2017.

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, raised in Laguna Beach, California, Randy Ingram currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. A protégé of pianists Alan Pasqua, Danilo Perez and Fred Hersch, who named him to the vanguard of contemporary young jazz pianists, Ingram won scholarships to the University of Southern California, where he received his Bachelors degree for Jazz Performance, and The New England Conservatory, where he received his Masters of Music. Randy Ingram was selected to attend the Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program and is a winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer’s Award. In the fall of 2016, Ingram will head to the prestigious MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH, where he has been awarded a composition fellowship.

Randy Ingram has performed and recorded with leading musicians including John Patitucci, Ari Hoenig, Benny Maupin, Ben Monder, Tierney Sutton, Joe Locke, Joel Frahm, Marcus Gilmore, Jon Irabagon, Ingrid Jensen, Joe LaBarbera, Kendrick Scott, Lage Lund, Matt Penman, Will Vinson, Jaleel Shaw and the late Billy Higgins. He has toured with recording artists Samantha Ronson (Roc-a-Fella), Kristina Train (Blue Note), Nikki Yanofksy (Decca/Universal) and Brenna Whitaker (Verve).
